The state offers seven well-known and accredited schools that offer bachelor’s and master’s degrees in various human resources specializations. Some of the degree programs combine a human resources degree with a business administration degree in order to prepare the student to work in several different areas of the business world. Other programs focus on human resources management, allowing the students to learn a wealth of information on human resources in both small, local businesses and in large international corporations. Athens State University

College of Business

The College of Business at Athens State University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP). In addition, all of the college’s curriculum is compliant with the ACBSP-recommended Common Professional Component (CPC). The College of Business offers a MBA, in addition to accounting, acquisition, systems management, logistics, and technology management majors. There are also several unique minors, including aviation management. Athens State University’s College of Business has a strong focus on technology, the global economy and diversity. All program participants will gain competencies in accounting, finance, management, global business, marketing and production theories. In addition, students will become competent in business technology, effective oral and written communication, maintaining ethical standards in business, using critical thinking skills and developing strong group interaction techniques.

Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management

This unique program combines traditional business courses with psychology and specialized management courses in order to prepare human resource management majors for a variety of employment opportunities in the human resources field. In addition, the program focuses on preparing students to enter graduate school for an advanced business or human resources degree. Students have the option of several different course topics, including management information systems, organizational communication, management and leadership, financial management, labor relations, international business, organizational behavior and team building, cultural diversity, scheduling and employee law.

Auburn University

Raymond J. Harbert College of Business

The Raymond J. Harbert College of Business offers four academic departments: aviation and supply chain management, finance, management and marketing. In addition, there is also a school of accountancy within the college of business. There are 13 undergraduate and seven graduate programs, in addition to 11 study abroad and exchange programs. The school currently enrolls approximately 4,000 students and boasts 75 tenure-track faculty and 20 visiting or part-time faculty. The US News & World Report has ranked the MBA program as 2nd on the list of MBAs with the Most Financial Value at Graduation. The US Department of Education issued a Title VI-B grant to the College of Business, in partnership with several other colleges within the institution. This grant was used to help create web-based online instructional models on international trade and business. The College of Business also offers research centers on small business development, ethical organizations and international business education.

Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management

The undergraduate human resource management degree at Auburn University introduces students to contemporary methodology in recruiting, training, career development, performance appraisal, compensation systems and policy-related issues. The program allows for 23 hours of electives, while encouraging students to use those electives in the fields of psychology, communications or sociology. Required courses include business law, financial accounting, contemporary business issues, English composition, compensation, marketing principles, organizational behavior and strategic management. All students are also encouraged to join the professional organization, the Society for Human Resource Management.

Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management

The MBA program at the University of Auburn can be completed on campus, via a video-based distance learning program and online, depending on the needs and preferences of the student. Students in the program can also earn a dual degree in either finance, management information systems and systems engineering, allowing students to create a versatile program that meets their career aspirations. Auburn offers a competitive number of graduate research assistantships each year, making the program an attractive option for the best and brightest MBA hopefuls.

Columbia Southern University

College of Business

All of the programs in Columbia Southern University’s College of Business are designed for working professionals. These accredited degree programs are all offered online. There are a variety of options, from an Associate of Business, to several bachelor’s of science degrees, MBA and master’s degrees and both undergraduate and graduate certificate programs. All of the online programs are accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration on Human Resource Management

The BSBA program at Columbia Southern University offers nine concentrations, including one in human resource management. The program has 60 credit hours of general studies requirements, including general electives. There are also 60 hours of major courses, including 24 hours of professional electives. Four of the courses are specialization courses. The program focuses on decision-making, problem solving, leadership and business procedures. The BSBA degree will prepare students for careers in the business world, while the focus on human resource management gives business majors unique insight into the management of human capital within the business realm.

Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration with a concentration on Human Resource Management

This program prepares individuals to work in the human resources field at medical-care establishments. Clinical and in-field components are not required for this program. This 120 credit hour program takes approximately five years to complete. There is a strong emphasis on communication skills, organizational competence and professional leadership. Program graduates will find career opportunities in hospitals, private medical clinics, nursing homes and health-based government and non-profit organizations.

Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management

This program places a significant emphasis on human capital development and leadership initiatives, while focusing on preparing students to work in a variety of types of different organizations. This degree program is designed for the individual who wants to pursue entry-level positions in human resources management in any type of organization, including universities, corporations or the healthcare industry, as well as those who would like to pursue a graduate degree in the business or human resources field. The 120 credit hour program aligns with the SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. Students in this program will learn to identify, analyze and solve complex issues.

Master of Business Administration with a concentration on Human Resource Management

Columbia Southern University’s MBA program can be completed entirely online in 37 semester hours. This program is a great choice for busy professionals, or for those who may have to balance the master’s degree coursework with family, work and other outside responsibilities. The program is also a good option for international students or for those who want to benefit from a Columbia Southern University education but may not live close to the university’s campus. The program completion time is estimated to be approximately three years. Students are required to complete courses in advanced marketing, research methods, strategic management, business ethics, human resources management, economics and operations research. This MBA program will allow the student to pursue career opportunities at many levels of business management, from management of the human resources department to leading the entire organization, both at United States-based corporations and in international organizations.

Undergraduate Certificate in Huan Resource Management

This specialized training is perfect for those who have a degree in another field and would like to add training in human resources management. Individuals must have an undergraduate degree in an area outside of human resources prior to enrolling in the program. A background in business administration or any business-related area is useful but not required for this certificate program. This 12 semester hour program allows students to complete four courses from the BSBA Management program in order to earn this undergraduate certificate. Course offerings include employment law, compensation and benefits, collective bargaining and human relations. The certificate program can be completed in approximately one year.

Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management

Like the undergraduate certificate, the graduate certificate program is a great option for those in the business field, as well as in unrelated fields, who would like to gain specialized training in the field of human resource management. In addition, the program is a great option for those who have a degree an unrelated area, but have found employment within the field of human resources and would like some specialized intensive training in the field. Students enrolling in this option must have a four-year degree from an area outside of the field of human resource management. All program participants are required to complete the following four courses: Training and Development, Compensation Management, Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining and Employment Law.

Sorrell College of Business

The Sorrell College of Business at Troy University has been named as a Best Buy for its online Master of Business Administration degree by GetEducated.com. The school offers four undergraduate majors: accounting, business administration, economics and global business. In addition, there are six graduate programs: accountancy, business administration, international business administration, human resource management, management and taxation. The Sorrell College of Business is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). While many of the program’s graduates are currently employed in the business, government, public accounting, military or non-profit fields, many of the program’s graduates intend to be self-employed, using the skills and competencies learned through their degree programs at Troy University.

BSBA Global Business with a concentration in Human Resource Management

This unique degree program option focuses on the importance of managing human resources within a global business framework. Students are taught important information on understanding and meeting the needs of individuals working in a corporation, making personal decisions, conducting performance reviews, making compensation decisions and training employees. Individuals with this degree can find career opportunities in the business world, as well as in military, government or non-profit organizations. Students are required to take courses in international trade, global electronic business, global human resource management, global marketing, and leadership. Courses within the human resources concentration include staffing, development, compensation and employee law.

Master of Science in Human Resource Management (MSHRM)

This program is a one-year Fast Track graduate program designed for working professionals. Students may complete requirements online and in evening and weekend classes. This degree program is not research oriented, and instead requires students to learn effective leadership and management skills. The program focuses on employee relations, policy development, industrial training, personnel management and compensation management in diverse international and US-based organizations. Students who complete the program may be eligible for career opportunities in the military or government, as well as US and international-based businesses and nonprofit organizations. Prior to beginning master’s-level courses, all students must have completed prerequisite foundation courses in management, marketing, finance, microeconomics, statistics and information systems. Once in the program, students can take courses in ethics, labor law, organizational behavior, workforce planning and other relevant courses.

Collat School of Business

The Collat School of Business places a strong emphasis on moving beyond the classroom and engaging in real-world business opportunities. University of Alabama in Huntsville

College of Business Administration

The University of Alabama in Huntsville’s College of Business Administration is nationally recognized for their intensive focus on technology management. In addition, there is a focus on real-world experience and altruism, with many students volunteering to provide free tax services to working families in 2014. The College of Business Administration’s hands-on approach allows students to participate in role-playing activities, projects with local companies, internships, co-op jobs and written or oral communication opportunities. The college offers bachelor’s degrees in business administration and economics and computational analysis, with minors in several areas, including entrepreneurship, pre-law, science and technology, international business, marketing, human resource management and economics. There is also a certificate in human resource management, in addition to graduate programs in business administration, accountancy, information systems and security. The National Science Foundation has named the UAH College of Business Administration to its list of the Top 10 Schools for Federally Funded Contracts and Grants in Management. It is also one of the few institutions in the southeast United States to have SAP software available for educational purposes.

Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management

This program places a large emphasis on using technology and innovation in the business world. All students must take courses on the role of technology in industry-driven change, using strategic human resources management in a technological environment, new product development and the effects of technology and technological change on revenue and business costs. In addition, those pursuing a human resource management concentration must also take courses in employee staffing and development, strategic compensation management and employee law for managers.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration–Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management

This BSBA program specializes in management and is a four-year program with a liberal arts and science foundation. During the first two years, students complete coursework in composition, humanities, history, fine arts, social sciences, natural sciences, and mathematics. The following two years are spent taking business-related courses. Those specializing in human resources management must also take 21 credit hours in the field of concentration, including six hours of business electives and courses in organizational behavior, labor relations, staffing and development, employment law and labor market economics.

Certificate in Human Resource Management

This program is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than human resources management and be enrolled in the university as an undergraduate student. Ideal program candidates are those that desire to work in the human resources field or those who are currently working in the field but have a degree from outside of the field. Students are required to complete 24 credit hours, including 9 hours of business electives and courses in employee law, compensation management, staffing, labor relations, and organizational management.

The goal of the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama is to provide an internationally accredited business education program to both undergraduates and graduates. BSBA in Management with a concentration on Human Resource Management

The BSBA program in management aims to produce managers that have the skills and knowledge necessary to become proficient leaders in the field of human resources. Students are also required to take general education courses in English, literature, calculus, humanities, fine arts, history, natural science and behavioral science.
